Niloy Ahsan perceives music as the embodiment of Prana—a profound inner symphony—and views Dhrupad as a transformative journey toward self-awareness. Rooted in the illustrious Dagar lineage, a Hindustani classical music tradition spanning 21 generations, his artistry serves as a living testament to a legacy tracing back to the 15th-century mystic Swami Haridas. As a 21st-generation exponent of this lineage, Niloy is celebrated as an exceptional vocalist, revered for his distinctive repertoire and profound understanding of Indian music’s essence.
Blending the ascetic rigor of Dagarvani Dhrupad with the melodic versatility of Sadharani Geeti, Niloy exudes rare elegance and timeless grace, earning recognition as one of the most promising Dhrupad vocalists of his generation. His music is distinguished by its refined, nuanced, and meditative renditions of the Alap, where his meticulous attention to microtonal inflections unveils the subtle intricacies of each raga.
Niloy’s musical journey began at the tender age of four under the guidance of his father. Over the years, he refined his craft under the mentorship of legendary maestros, including Padma Shri Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar and the Padma Shri Gundecha Brothers, whose teachings have profoundly enriched his artistry.
In October 2021, Niloy collaborated with Grammy and Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman’s Firdaus Orchestra at the Dubai Expo—a landmark moment in his career. His international engagements also include multiple performances and collaborations with jazz virtuoso Vyacheslav Guyvoronsky in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 2012. Most recently, he had the honor of recording for Gorillaz, the iconic Grammy-winning band, and contributing two songs to the latest album by the renowned Prem Joshua.
