In an era when "experimentation" in Hindi film music often meant remixing old hits with club beats, Nikhil Mawkin dared to imagine something different. In 2011, he fused two seemingly distant genres — Hindi film music and Jazz — creating a unique musical experience. What began as an experiment soon grew into a full-fledged project, breathing new life into the timeless melodies of Bollywood’s "Golden Era."
Over the years, Bollyjazz has evolved, curating a rich repertoire of carefully selected songs that remain relatable even today. Each melody is reimagined with vibrant Jazz rhythms like Samba, Bossa Nova, Swing, and Funk, allowing musicians to improvise and bring their own flavor to familiar tunes.
Bollyjazz has performed at prominent festivals and venues across India and Mexico, including Rendezvous Festival (Delhi), Tablu Festival (Jaipur), The Jaipur Literature Festival, Kamani Auditorium (Delhi), Akshara Theatre (Delhi), Agora de la Ciudad (Xalapa, Mexico) and JacoJazzy Cafe (Mexico).
Always seeking new ways to create an authentic Jazz experience, Bollyjazz has grown into a global brand — a creative bridge between Mexico and India. Today, musicians from around the world collaborate under the Bollyjazz banner, transforming it into a genre of its own.
