Anuragi aka Dr. Rajesh Anuragi
Anuragi is a singer-songwriter, poet, and performer whose music bridges the realms of heart and intellect. Hailing from a small village in Uttar Pradesh and trained as a doctor with an MD from Banaras Hindu University, his path eventually led him to a deeper calling—music. Today, based in Delhi, Anuragi has become a distinctive voice in India’s independent music scene, known for his poetic storytelling and a sound that blends acoustic textures with rock influences.
With four acclaimed studio albums—Nishaani (2013), Zaher (2015), Aazadi (2018), and Lockdown (2020)—Anuragi has explored themes of love, freedom, spirituality, and social consciousness. His third album Aazadi fearlessly addresses social taboos and collective struggles, while singles like Jogi and Bhaj Ram from his upcoming 2025 release Ae Dil Gungunaa reflect a more introspective and spiritual journey. He’s also developing Mallang, a concept album inspired by the mystical poetry of Kabir, Bulle Shah, Meera, and other Bhakti saints from the 14th century.
Anuragi’s live performances have resonated with diverse audiences at some of India’s most respected venues and festivals—whether at IIT Roorkee, Rishikesh Music Festival, or the International Yog Festival. His heartfelt tribute to the Indian Air Force, Ae Watan (2018), became a powerful anthem of patriotism, while the visual storytelling in videos like Bhaj Ram, shot in the ancient lanes of Banaras, brings his music closer to India’s soul.
A wanderer at heart, Anuragi infuses his songs with the textures of India’s landscapes, people, and traditions. Beyond the music, he stands as a socially conscious artist, lending his voice to movements like the Narmada Bachao Andolan and the Farmers’ Protest. Drawing from the timeless wisdom of mystics and the raw pulse of the present, Anuragi’s music is both a mirror and a lamp—reflecting truths and lighting paths.
Depot 48 gig is very important to us becoz it is one of very few venue which promotes and encourages original indie music.
